The discovery Monday evening of the body of an infant during the clean-up of Nairobi River in the Korogocho area of Kenya raises to 19 the number of infants (14) and adults (5) whose remains have been found “since Governor Mike Sonko launched the Nairobi River cleanup exercise early last year,” the Standard Media reported.

“Officials termed the discoveries alarming and urged for action to stop the trend,” Cyrus Ombati reported. “This is because most of the bodies are those of infants.”

Sonko said, “We have called on the police to investigate these cases, adding, “Who are the people behind these senseless killings?”

Fredrick Okinda, who was identified as the chairman of Komb-Green Solutions, which is assisting in the cleanup,

blamed illegal clinics performing abortions for some of the bodies found. He said some appeared to be foetuses. …

“Some of the babies appeared to have been thrown after being born.”

Just a few days, an abandoned newborn baby  miraculously survived being dumped in Nairobi’s Eastland’s. A passer-by found the baby with a rope tied tightly around the infant’s neck, the Daily Post Nigeria reported.

The Good Samaritan rushed the baby to Mukuru kwa Reuben Maternity Hospital where first aid was done on the baby and the rope removed,” according to reporter Edem Edem. The baby was reportedly moved to Mama Lucy Hospital “with his condition yet to get better.”

Gov. Sanko used social media to “issue a stern warning to mothers who dump their babies terming such acts as cruel and evil and that they will no longer be tolerated in Nairobi,” Edem reported.

Sanko added

“…I wish instead of doing this to an innocent angel the mother had come reached out to well-wishers for help in raising him. Let’s pray for the baby to survive and live to achieve the purpose for which God created him.”
