“Focus on the needs of the people of Michigan, not the demands of the abortion industry,” Michigan Catholic Conference tells Gov. Whitmer

Tip of the hat to Breitbart for alerting pro-lifers to a powerful statement issued Sunday by the Michigan Catholic Conference. You’ll remember that pro-abortion Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has reached new levels of extremism (and absurdity) in sheltering the abortion industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While she had ordered “big box stores to stop selling paint, carpets, and other home-improvement material not considered essential” (as Shikha Dalmia observed)and restricted people from buying seeds to plant gardens to grow their own food, Whitmer has allowed abortion facilities to remain open during her “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order.

As Right to Life of Michigan highlighted, during an appearance last week on The Axe Files with David Axelrod, the governor was asked for her rationale which turned out to include her infamous “life-sustaining” comment:

We stopped elective surgeries here in Michigan. Some people have tried to say that that type of a procedure is considered the same and that’s ridiculous. A woman’s healthcare, her whole future, her ability to decide if and when she starts a family is not an election, it is a fundamental to her life. It is life-sustaining and it’s something that government should not be getting in the middle of.

In no uncertain terms the Michigan Catholic Conference blasted Whitmer:

“Governor Whitmer’s comment that abortion is ‘life-sustaining’ comes as no surprise; for most if not all of her political career the governor has carried the banner for abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy. Her comments indicate how easily candidates for higher office are pushed into a dark corner by the abortion industry. Joe Biden’s abdication of his forty-year support for the Hyde Amendment no doubt paved the way.”

Here is the remainder of their no-nonsense statement:

“Michigan Catholic Conference has expressed its appreciation to the governor for her efforts to keep residents of the state safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her comments on the podcast, however, clarify how bifurcated and confusing her understanding of human life has become.

“Residents across the state have been forced to delay their non-emergency medical procedures due to the pandemic. Yet the governor insists that elective abortions continue, as she believes the procedure ‘sustains life.’ The logic is removed from reality: night is not day; war is not peace. How can Governor Whitmer on the one hand prohibit medical surgeries and the growth of food through gardening yet refer to a procedure that intentionally destroys a developing human person as ‘life sustaining?’

“We call on Governor Whitmer to pause and reflect on the wounds her comments have created for countless people in this state and elsewhere. We all need the governor’s sole focus right now to be on the needs of the people of Michigan, not the demands of the abortion industry.”

As you can easily see from the statement, Gov. Whitmer’s exercise in doublespeak came as no surprise to the Michigan Catholic Conference. Nor should it surprise anyone else.

According to Micaiah Bilger

A tweet recently surfaced of Whitmer donning a pink Planned Parenthood hat in 2018 that mocked President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.” Whitmer is shown in a pink t-shirt and matching ball cap with white words emblazoned across it that read, “Planned Parenthood Makes America Great.” She captioned her selfie with, “The future is bright…. and pink!”
