Making this a Memorable Pro-Life Summer

I have always looked at summer as a season of enchantment. The brilliant sun…the spectacular flowers…and the towering trees in full bloom are enough to make my heart dance. With the restrictions placed upon many of us by the COVID-19 outbreak, summer may look a bit different this year. Still, I have come up with five ways to make this a memorable pro-life summer:

1.      Get social. I must say that my spirit soars each time I see an Ultrasound image of a preborn baby on Twitter. Summer is a wonderful time to reach out in love on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social media. People yearn to see the good and the beautiful, and there is nothing more beautiful than a post celebrating life. If you need ideas, check out the terrific feeds from National Right to Life’s Facebook and Twitter pages which can help to liven up your social media game.

2.      Get talking. Talk to your friends and family members about the latest pro-life movie you saw or the book you read which upholds the sanctity of innocent human life. Speak the truth in love. Share with your loved ones the way that you are celebrating life this summer.

3.      Get educated.  Learn about pro-life heroines such as the late Dr. Mildred Jefferson, the first African-American woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School who played a profoundly important leadership role in the pro-life movement. Research pro-life suffragists such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who reportedly once said, “Truth is the only safe ground to stand upon.”

4.      Get motivated. Be inspired by the writings of pro-life luminaries such as Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Listen to music which celebrates the beauty of life. Be captivated by artwork that honors the dignity of the human person.

5.      Get moving. Volunteer at your state affiliate of National Right to Life or a local chapter near you. Consider spending a few hours sorting baby clothes or performing other necessary tasks at a pregnancy resource center. Better yet, hold a baby shower for a pregnant woman in your family or your community. Even if it must be done virtually because of the Coronavirus, it will be well worth your effort.

Summer is alive with possibility—even in the midst of a pandemic. Open your eyes to the pro-life opportunities before you. You never know how many hearts you will touch—or lives you will save!
