Explaining the near-impossible: even more media hate for President Trump

Aug 25, 2020

By Dave Andrusko

Whew….and we still have 70 days to go until November 3.

It’s my job to read and write all day long. So, I read as many articles/blogs/memes as I can and skim the rest.

However, even skimming the Washington Post online front page has become a near-impossibility. The only thing President Trump does not stand accused of is the nomination of Joe Biden as his Democrat opponent. Should Biden lose—or, in my opinion, when he loses—Trump will doubtless be charged with ensuring that Democrats nominated a pro-abortion team of Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris that was fated to lose.

Besides Job #1—defeating President Trump—why the constant flow of what is over-the-top even for the WaPost?

#1. You can smell the panic. Sen. Harris adds nothing to the ticket— and there wasn’t that much to begin with. Mike Pence continues to be a tremendous asset to President Trump.

#2. The Bunker strategy is based on one fact and one supposition. Biden stays hidden because you never know what he would say off the cuff. That’s a fact. The supposition—which will prove as ruinous to Biden as it did to Hillary Clinton—is that they don’t need to campaign. The only way they can lose is to make a “Big Mistake.”

But they  already are making multiple “Big Mistakes,” beginning with the aforementioned “Where’s Joe” campaign strategy.

#3. Granted, we are only one day into the GOP convention but the contrast with last week’s Democrat convention speaks volumes. As Michael Continetti of the Washington Free Beacon perceptively observed

“The first night of the 2020 Republican National Convention was a mirror image of last week’s Democratic telethon.” All the issues that the Democrats ignored “were mentioned again and again.” Almost as important (in my opinion), “Where the Democrats showcased elected officials and celebrities, some of the most effective speeches on night one of the RNC came from lesser-known individuals such as activist Andrew Pollack, Cuban immigrant Maximo Alvarez, and nurse Amy Ford.”

If you missed those speeches, dial them up. These are the kind of genuine human life stories that grab your heart and speak to your soul.

#4. I wrote earlier today about how nearly six times as many people watched the Republicans’ first night as the Democrats’ first night. We were lectured by most of the media that last week’s clunker of a convention the Democrats put on didn’t matter because Biden is so far ahead Trump can’t even see his dust.

The facts are (a) that isn’t true; and (b) Trump –unlike Biden—will likely receive a “bounce.” This convention promises to be highly effective at getting their messages out. Its messages speak to the promise of America, not contempt for what she stands for.

As the Democrats will learn, recycling  your hatred for Donald Trump has already reached a point of diminishing returns. And

#5. I found this particular insightful on Continetti’s part:

The two conventions did share a few elements. They both had panel discussions featuring the nominee as moderator. But even these segments involved a trip through the looking glass. Joe Biden talked with people over Zoom. President Trump greeted first responders and rescued hostages in person…

One approach signals confidence conveyed with the human touch. The other reminds us that Joe Biden will stay as far away from the voters as humanly possible, hoping to coast to victory.

It ain’t gonna happen. Energy and vision will almost always win out over passivity and fear.
