NRL News Today looks back at where we were 7 days prior to the 2016 presidential election

Oct 27, 2020

By Dave Andrusko

As we have for going on two weeks, each day we are re-posting and/or updating a story that ran the equivalent number of days prior to the 2016 elections to give you a sense of where we were then—in this case November 1, 2016 — and where we are today. The core of the 2016 post a week out was that then-candidate Trump had eaten away at the huge advantage Hillary Clinton had enjoyed just two weeks before in the Washington Post/ABC News survey.

Here’s one particularly relevant quote from the accompanying Washington Post story:

The latest results, while steady for seven nights, reflect a sharp turnaround from a large Clinton lead in the first four nights of tracking, after a particularly difficult news cycle for Trump.

Even the flacks at places such as MSNBC offered President Trump a backhanded compliment about his performance in the second and final presidential debate. All that pro-abortion Joe Biden needed to accomplish (in their view) was “tie” (which he supposedly did).

The “difficult news cycle” which Trump was bouncing back from is further back this year than it was in 2016. Moreover, as we approach November 3rd, it is Biden who is not only saying the most outlandish things (he said his team has created “the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics”), he is also making policy statements that are 100% guaranteed to cost him votes in energy-producing states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Stay tuned. This last week will be endlessly fascinating—and, I’ll bet, encouraging.
