A groundbreaking program in Indiana is helping to cut the Hoosier state’s abortion totals.

According to the Christian Post, in the six years of the program’s existence, Indiana’s number of abortions has dropped by eight percent.

The program is under the umbrella of the Indiana Department of Health Services. It is administered by the Pennsylvania-based Real Alternatives, Inc., which is the guiding light behind similar programs around the country.

As Real Alternatives CEO told the Christian Post, “Thanks to this continued statewide program, pregnant women have another person to assist them, which empowers them to overcome obstacles and pressures so they can choose life for their preborn baby.”

More than 70,000 clients have been served through the Indiana program, which was launched by former Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

Pence has stated, “Real Alternatives has empowered women for life by providing positive, life-affirming pregnancy and parenting support services to women and families in need. I am grateful to all the men and women who have dedicated their time and talent.”

The Indiana program includes more than 20 pregnancy resource centers and social service organizations throughout the Hoosier State, covering the vast majority of the state’s counties.

The public-private partnership is welcomed by the Executive Director of Right to Life of Southwest Indiana, Mary Ellen Van Dyke. She told the Christian Post, “I believe it makes a world of difference to have someone to present to you the facts, the realities, and to calm your fears.”
