South Dakota Right to Life Capitol Report: Week 4

by | Feb 3, 2021

Editor’s note. The following update comes from South Dakota Right to Life, NRLC’s state affiliate.

Pro-life South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem

HB 1051:  We are supporting the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

We would hope that no baby born alive would ever be denied life saving care in SD. This bill strengthens our current statute by adding definitions, penalties for those who violate the statute, protections for those who report on violations, and a reporting mechanism.

House Bill 1051, has now passed the full House and will now soon go to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee for a vote on Monday, February 8 at 10:00 am (CST).

Please contact your Senator and ask him or her to VOTE YES on HB 1051.

Senate Bill 38:  This is an Act to require the provision of information regarding perinatal hospice.

SB 38  is a bill that provides parents with referral information for perinatal hospice programs.  This bill seeks to help all newborn children, regardless of a fatal disability, to be welcomed, cherished, and loved.

SB 83 has now passed the full Senate and will soon be heard in the House Health and Human Services Committee. Please contact your Representatives and ask them to VOTE YES on SB 83.

House Bill 1079:  This is the Governor’s Donor Privacy Protection Bill.

With this bill’s passage, our Legislature will be sending a signal that private donor information for non-profit groups should remain private.

HB 1079 has now passed the House Committee and will soon be on the House Floor for a vote.  Please contact your Representatives and ask them to VOTE YES on HB 1079.
