Answering “Hard Questions for the Hard Cases: How to Defend Life” at CPAC

CPAC—the Conservative Political Action Conference– concluded its annual conference Saturday and, understandably, much of the attention focused on the speech delivered that night by pro-life former President Donald Trump.

But earlier in the day, at 12:15,  CPAC presented “Hard Questions for the Hard Cases: How to Defend Life,” a panel discussion moderated by Kelly Jane Torrance from New York Post.

Among the panel members was freshman Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-Mn.). Rep. Fischbach is one of an astonishing 19 new pro-life female Members of the House of Representatives. The number of pro-life women in Congress more than doubled following the 2020 elections. (There are also 27 new pro-life men.)

Torrance began the session by asking how you would make the case for life “to someone who is not religious—who is an agnostic or an atheist or [someone who is] not really sure? How could you bring them on board?”

Rep. Fischbach’s answer combined returning to the basics and utilizing the transformative power of science to demonstrate the humanity of unborn babies:

First and foremost, whatever [your position stems from] a religious basis or if you are a agnostic– life is worth protecting. We respect one another because it’s a life and it’s very important to do that. It’s that simple.”

She continued

But in addition to that, science is showing us so much about the humanity of the unborn. … I have five grandchildren and another on the way and when my children were born, you had those little grainy ultrasounds. Now you’ve got the 4D and you can see if the baby’s smiling. Science is showing us so much about the humanity of the unborn that it is undeniable at this point. So that is one of the things you have to talk about. Make sure they understand. This is something that you have to talk about. This is a human life!”
