Born-Alive bill easily passes Alabama House

Odd, if utterly predictable, that all legislation requiring abortionists to treat abortion survivors equitably is dismissed by Democrats as unnecessary.

That’s what happened yesterday, according to reporter Mike Cason, as the Alabama House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that requires for the abortion survivor  “the same standards of care to preserve the baby’s life as any doctor would do for any baby.”

The vote on the bill, sponsored by state Rep. Ginny Shaver,  was 76-12 . The bill now moves onto the state Senate.

“Shaver argued the law was needed to protect babies while opponents of the bill said the legislation was unneeded because what Shaver was describing is already illegal,” Cason reported.

But Shaver  was undeterred, “This is not about abortion. This is about a baby’s right to life,” she  said.

Shaver offered a similar bill two years ago which passed the House but not the state Senate.
