Kansas: A Growing Destination for Abortion?

Not long ago, Kansas was infamously known as the “late-term abortion capital” of the country. Pro-life advocates decided this was unacceptable and worked hard to elect legislators who would pass laws to protect women and their babies. As a result, annual abortions in Kansas have decreased nearly 50 percent since 1999.

Sadly, Kansas is once again becoming the destination of choice for Missourians seeking abortions.

Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) statistics show that almost half of 2019 abortions in Kansas were on women from out-of-state, and most of those were performed on Missouri residents. In fact, over 3,000 crossed the Kansas-Missouri border to obtain abortion services.

One reason for this is that the abortion industry has placed two Kansas facilities in close proximity to where no abortion facilities operate on the Missouri side of the greater Kansas City area. It’s lucrative business for the Kansas industry.

The stark reality is that this problem will only grow as any and all attempts to place commonsense limits on the abortion industry are currently at risk, including all previously enacted, bi-partisan supported measures. Without them those seeking abortion will flow across our borders to find easy, unlimited access. Unfortunately, these women will also be more at risk from an unregulated abortion industry that places profits above people’s wellbeing.

The VALUE THEM BOTH Amendment to the State Constitution must be approved by voters on August 2, 2022, in order to protect our state’s existing laws and regulate the abortion industry. Please get involved by talking about the VALUE THEM BOTH Amendment with your family and friends and why it matters.
