Two pro-life bills pass New Hampshire House

It’s been a long time—nearly a decade–since a pro-life bill passed in New Hampshire, but pro-lifers in The Granite State are making an all-out push this legislative session now that both houses of the legislature are controlled by Republicans.

The Associated Press reported that late last month, House Bill 625 passed overwhelmingly in the state House. The bill would “ban abortion after 24 weeks’ gestation unless there is a threat to the mother.” Following a 181-49 vote, HB 625 moved onto the state Senate.

Predictably, pro-abortion House Democrats were up in arms, according to the AP.

House Democratic Leader Renny Cushing called the votes an unprecedented attack on reproductive rights.

“We were determined that we were not going to collaborate with the attack on women’s right to choose,” he said in an By interview.

By contrast state House Majority Leader Jason Osborne said that late-term abortion bans have strong public support.

“At 24 weeks the unborn are considered viable, and this bill allows them to have the same right to life as any other human.”

The House also passed HB 233, the “Born Alive Infant Protection Act,” which would require that “medically appropriate and reasonable” care be provided to all babies after birth. It is the ultimate in non-discriminatory treatment for abortion survivors, nothing more but nothing less.
