Pro-life House Whip Scalise: “We’re going to fight with everything we have to preserve Hyde protections”

As NRL News Today readers know so well, there is seemingly nothing the Democrat-controlled Congress and the Biden-Harris administration won’t do for their compatriots in arms, the Abortion Industry.

That  includes even going after the Hyde Amendment which has saved over two million lives and that has been a mainstay for decades, even when Democrats wielded all the arms of power. It meant and means, with very limited exceptions, no federal dollars  to pay for abortion.

Last week, in describing “the Administration’s radical left turn,” Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) said

It touches much more than just infrastructure policy. In fact, it includes an unprecedented new threat to the basic dignity of human life.

On the campaign trail last year, President Biden announced that he would abandon a mainstream position he had held for decades – that taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund abortions.

Yesterday, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (La.) was asked about pro-abortion President Joe Biden’s proposed budget which conspicuously lacked Hyde protections:

Scalise: We’re going to fight with everything we have to preserve Hyde protections. This has been a bipartisan agreement going back to the 1970’s when Henry Hyde first put limitations on tax payer money being used to fund abortion into appropriations bills and then it started with one bill, and the next year he brought it to a few more and ultimately, it became part of any spending bill that you would have a protection that tax payer funds wouldn’t be used to fund abortion. And you’re seeing President Biden trying to chip that away. They did it in the last non COVID bill, the spending bill that spent over a trillion dollars, did not have Hyde protections. But, we’re going to fight to ensure that any spending bill that moves through congress continues to maintain the bipartisan, respected Hyde protections and this will be a big fight.

What about that not one Democrat has expressed support of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act?

Scalise: Well, you haven’t seen any pro-life Democrats on the House side and what I say by that is–we have a bill called the Born-Alive Act, Ann Wagner’s bill that there is a discharge petition on now. That bill would say that if a baby is born alive outside of the womb, now we’re talking after the baby has come out of the womb alive, in some states they’re killing that baby and calling it abortion. That is murder. And yet, it’s happening in some states and this bill would just protect the lives of those who are born outside of the womb. Not a single Democrat will sign on to that discharge petition. So, I don’t know how anyone can call themselves ‘pro-life’ and not demand that the Born -Alive Act come to the House floor.
