Fact 23 for the 23rd week of development

by | Jan 31, 2022

Week 23: The baby is about the size and has the proportions of a newborn now, but still needs to bulk up a little! With the brain developing more every day, basic life functions are also developing. The baby can breathe, thanks to a substance called surfactant which enables the air sacs to inflate and the lungs to fully expand. As of this moment, the baby is breathing amniotic fluid!

The eyes are fully formed 👁️, but they don’t have color yet. Next week, at week 24, the baby will be able to recognize sounds and can even get startled! #40weeks40facts
