In an unspeakable act of brutality, Devonne Marsh doused his pregnant girlfriend with lighter fluid before setting her on fire, leaving her with third degree burns on over 60% of her body. She is in critical condition. It is not known if her unborn twins, who are 6-and-a-half months old, will survive.

“On January 14, police in Detroit received a call that a woman was being held against her will and tortured; they found the unnamed woman lying on a bed in the basement with severe burns, barely able to move,” according to Cassy Fiano-Chesser.

Marsh was arrested “and charged with kidnapping/abduction, aggravated/felonious assault, and violation of the controlled substance act,” Fiano-Chesser reported.

Incredibly, “Despite his prior charges and convictions – including violent crimes – his bond was set at $50,000 or 10%, meaning he could post bail if he can up with $5,000,” said Jessica Dupnack.

“How do you do this to another human being? I can’t – it’s unimaginable,” said Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis. “Just incredibly traumatic injuries. I did see pictures and I just…the pain she must be suffering, I can’t imagine.”

Understandably, the unidentified pregnant woman was scared to report what happened to her for fear of retaliation from Marsh, said Sgt. Kyla Williams who runs DPD’s domestic violence unit. “A tipster reported the crime and the woman later felt safe enough to tell her story,” Jessica Dupnack reported.
