Enthusiasm is high among pro-life Pennsylvanians, who are eager to cast their ballots for candidates who respect the dignity and value of innocent human life.

The primary election is still months away, but a number of voters in the Keystone State are already looking forward to being part of a “pro-life wave” come May 17th.

More than a dozen Republicans are vying for both Governor and U.S. Senator, making it the largest candidate field in recent memory. Most of them have been on the debate circuit in recent weeks, trying to stand out in a crowd filled with distinguished contenders.

Meanwhile, down-ballot, redistricting is complicating matters for candidates for Congress, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and the Pennsylvania Senate. It could be some time before we learn where the district boundary lines will fall.

The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation Political Action Committee is already hard at work, screening candidates, sending out candidate questionnaires, monitoring public statements, and fielding voter questions.

The stakes are incredibly high this year. Pro-life U.S. Senator Pat Toomey has decided not to run for re-election. The race to replace him could be one of the most hotly-contested races in the country, and could help determine whether the GOP retakes control of the Senate.

Meantime, after two terms amassing a record as the most pro-abortion Governor in Pennsylvania history, Democrat Tom Wolf is exiting as the Commonwealth’s Chief Executive. Wolf, a former Planned Parenthood volunteer escort, routinely and unapologetically vetoed common sense pro-life legislation, including a proposed ban on the barbaric practice of dismemberment abortion. His record on the life issues deserves a place in the legislative hall of shame.

But the Democrat who is running to succeed him, PA Attorney General Josh Shapiro, has an equally troubling stand when it comes to the life issues. As AG, Shapiro even fought a legal battle against the Little Sisters of the Poor in an attempt to make the sisters violate their religious convictions. Shapiro has the backing of the political arm of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion operation.

Still, hope runs high that a pro-life sweep will keep the vast majority of pro-abortion candidates out of office in Pennsylvania in 2022. The sign of the times is definitely pro-life!
