Take action now to encourage your state senator to support House Bill 1217 to protect women and babies from coerced abortions.

The Indiana House passed House Bill 1217 on January 25; it now is in the hands of the Indiana Senate.

This bill would make it a felony in Indiana to coerce a woman into having an abortion. It would also hold abortion clinics accountable for failing to report coercion to law enforcement.

According to a study published in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, nearly 75 percent of the 987 American women who participated in an after-abortion survey admitted that they experienced “at least subtle forms of pressure to terminate their pregnancies.”

The Beazley Institute, from Loyola University in Chicago, states in a report that among 66 human trafficking survivors, there were 114 abortions.

Currently, 18 states have laws protecting women from being coerced into having an abortion. Indiana does not.
