Hundreds of Pro-life people from all over the Commonwealth of Virginia assembled in Richmond to meet with Members of the General Assembly on Wednesday February 9th. The event was a statewide advocacy day to encourage legislators to support passage of protective pro-life bills currently being debated by the GA. These bills will all be voted on before next week’s Crossover Day.

Defending Life Day is a project of the Virginia Society for Human Life, the Virginia Catholic Conference and both the Richmond and Arlington Diocese. National Right to Life and several other pro-life groups and churches are also involved. The goal of Defending Life Day is to be a voice for the voiceless

The bills being discussed are a Born -Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, a new Informed Consent/ Women’s Right to Know bill, and the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Each of these bills is reasonable and supported by a majority of Americans. The House and Senate have committee hearings this week on each of them and final votes next week on the bills that come out of committee.

The attendees for Defending Life Day will be holding meetings with their own legislators in the House and Senate to ask for their support. While some will have to hold zoom meetings with those offices, mostly Democrats, unwilling to meet constituents in person due to Covid, most will be able to speak directly with members. The Speaker of the House, Del. Todd Gilbert, and Senator Steve Newman will meet with those unable to meet their own legislator in person.

A smaller delegation from the group will meet with Lt. Governor Sears tomorrow morning as well.

At the same time, pro-life people from all over Virginia will be able to send an email or phone call to their member’s office. The goal of Defending Life Day is to be a voice for the voiceless
