Biden approval  sinks to new lows among young people 18-29

Boy, talk about the difference one word can make: “Biden’s approval rating drops further with young Americans in new poll.” Barely 40%–41%, to be precise–of young adults ages 18-29  approved of his job performance in a new Harvard Institute of Politics poll.

Last spring 59% of young Americans approved of the President. That dropped 13 points to 46% in the fall of 2021.

CNN’s Ariel Edwards-Levy and Rachel Janfaza remind us that twelve years ago, “56% approved of then-President Barack Obama ahead of the first midterm cycle of his presidency” and the Democrats still lost the House in 2010.

It gets worse.

“Overall, Biden voters who now disapprove of his performance rate him more harshly on the economy,” John Della Volpe, Harvard IOP’s polling director, writes in the survey’s release. “(T)hey see the current political system as ineffectual; they view the President as putting the interests of the elite over their own; they consume less political information; are more likely to be on Twitter; have less hope about the future; are more liberal; and more passionate about (canceling) student debt for everyone.”

Meanwhile, support for President Biden among Hispanics continues to plummet down to numbers that have been inconceivable a year ago: 26%.

 Nate Hochman writes

One particularly notable aspect of the poll was Biden’s abysmal approval rating among Hispanics, which comes at a time when Democrats are hemorrhaging support from the demographic overall. According to Quinnipiac, just 26 percent of Hispanics approve “of the way Joe Biden is handling his job as president,” compared to 54 percent who disapprove, and 20 percent who were surveyed as “don’t know/not applicable.” In contrast, Biden’s approval rating with whites was ranked at a slightly better — though still definitively negative — 31 percent favorability.

And the disaffection is across the board. Biden is down 13 points in the Real Clear Politics average of the most prominent polls: 41% approval, 54% disapproval.

We’ll keep you up to date as the numbers continue to tumble.
