Oklahomans for Life instrumental in passing strong pro-life law

Let’s compare and contrast. On the one hand, there is National Right to Life’s response to SB 612, a major pro-life bill signed by Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt. On the other hand there is statement issued by pro-abortion White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

One of the people present at the bill signing who has been responsible for helping lay the groundwork for today’s pro-life milestone is Tony Lauinger, longtime advocate for the unborn child as state chairman of Oklahomans For Life, state affiliate of National Right to Life,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life.

“We praise Oklahomans For Life and Tony Lauinger for their hard work in seeing this law passed,” said Tobias. “No unborn child should die a horrible death in an abortion. This bill will go far in protecting unborn children and their mothers from abortion.”

Then there is Ms. Psaki’s statement which is excerpted below:

This unconstitutional attack on women’s rights is just the latest and one of the most extreme state laws signed into law to date. Protecting the right recognized in Roe v. Wade continues to be a priority for the Biden-Harris Administration, and we call on Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would shut down these attacks and codify this long-recognized, constitutional right.

As for the governor himself, “I promised Oklahomans that I would sign every pro-life bill that hit my desk, and that’s what we’re doing here today,” Stitt said. “We want Oklahoma to be the most pro-life state in the country.”

“I know this bill will be challenged immediately by liberal activists from the coast, who always seem to want to come in and dictate, and mandate, and challenge our way of life here in the state of Oklahoma,” Stitt added. “The most important thing is to take a stand and protect the unborn and protect life in the state of Oklahoma.”

Sen. Nathan Dahm, who wrote the bill, called it the “strongest pro-life legislation in the country right now, which effectively eliminates abortion in Oklahoma.”

According to Sean Murphy of the Associated Press, “Dahm said the bill would apply to any physicians in Oklahoma who dispense abortion medication to women, which accounted for about 64% of all abortions performed in Oklahoma in 2020, the most recent year for which statistics were available.”

The bill cleared the state Senate last year and the House earlier this month.

SB 612 takes effect 90 days after the Legislature adjourns next month.
