Solid advice from a very unlikely source

Sorry, this slipped right by me. But it’s very much worth talking about, even if it did take place May 14.

That day pro-abortion former First Lady Michelle Obama shared her thoughts on her Instagram account. It was a pep talk for her followers and for abortion supporters in general. What is extremely interesting and very revealing is that the advice she gives to her 21.7 million supporters is exactly what you have done for decades.

She begins with

It’s been a tough couple of weeks since we saw the leaked SCOTUS draft opinion on abortion. Even if we knew the courts were heading toward this day, it doesn’t make the frustration, grief, and fear any less real.

If any of you are questioning whether or not your vote matters, I get it. But remember that state lawmakers are the ones who will determine whether abortion is safe, legal, and accessible in your communities. And we are the ones who determine our state lawmakers.

Mrs. Obama is certainly correct when she says that should Roe be overturned, much of the action will be in the states. We have fought for over 40 years to have a democratic discussion on abortion.

“Let’s be clear: This potential decision would be the culmination of a decades-long strategy to take away a woman’s right to make decisions about her own health.”

Talk about disingenuous. This discussion is about not about “health,” it’s about abortion– about taking away an unborn child’s right to live and eventually “make decisions about her own health.”  Mrs. Obama continues

“And we’ve got to make sure that everyone we know is voting not just when we’re inspired about or excited about a single candidate, but in every single election at every single level—for decades if that’s what it takes.”

Keen advice: participating not just when feel inspired by a given candidate, but ever and always in every election cycle at every level. It is no accident that we are on the brink of overturning Roe. You elected Donald Trump who as President appointed three justices to the Supreme Court. And then

“Because let’s face it—the people who wanted this to happen stuck through Republican presidencies and Democratic presidencies through good election cycles and bad ones.”

There have been many points in time at which our hopes seemingly were crushed. But you looked beyond what you knew in your hearts were momentary setbacks. You persevered–electing pro-life Republicans and defeating pro-abortion Democrats—in season and out.

Well done!
