Judge Blocks Louisiana’s Pro-Life Law Again, Hearing Set for Monday

19th Judicial District Court Judge Don Johnson has locked Louisiana’s pro-life law protecting babies from abortion by issuing a new Temporary Restraining Order (TRO). Judge Johnson scheduled a hearing for Monday July 18th on whether to adopt a preliminary injunction.

In June, Louisiana’s largest abortion business, Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport, filed a lawsuit against the 2006 Human Life Protection Act, as well as the recent 2022 Reaffirmation of Human Life Act.

The new TRO comes after Orleans Civil Judge Ethel Simms Julien ruled Friday that the plaintiffs for Hope Medical Group for Women had improper venue and transferred the case to East Baton Rouge Parish courts.

“It is disappointing that another judge is preventing laws supported by our citizens and their legislators from being enforced to protect babies from abortion,” said Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life. “These delays mean that innocent babies targeted for abortion are back in the crosshairs at for-profit abortion businesses. The lawsuit is frivolous and wastes taxpayer dollars. We look forward to our law being vindicated and lives being protected.”
