Leadership does not necessarily have an expiration date. For living proof of that, consider Betty Caffrey of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Betty just recently celebrated her birthday with a cake glowing with candles, surrounded by those who love and admire her. And it wasn’t just any birthday. Betty is marking 94 years on planet earth.

Betty is a pro-life chapter leader extraordinaire. She has spent decades serving pregnant women and their families in northeastern Pennsylvania, offering them everything from compassionate counseling to clothes for newborns. Her dedication on behalf of the most vulnerable is legendary.

And she shows no signs of stopping.

Back when she turned 90, Betty received a number of honors, including a Papal blessing. U.S. Senator Pat Toomey sent her an American  flag which had been flown over the U.S. Capitol building.

Long before that, Betty received the highest of honors from the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, the state affiliate of National Right to Life. The organization presented her with the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Lifetime Achievement Award–a recognition of her tireless service to women facing challenging circumstances.

I have to say I admire Betty so much. She has been so faithful to the cause of restoring legal protection to preborn babies. She lived to see the fall of Roe v. Wade and the dawn of the post-Roe era. When I think of proudly pro-life female leaders, Betty Caffrey tops the list.

Betty’s unwavering commitment in the face of incredible odds is an inspiration to many in Pennsylvania. We salute Betty for her vision and leadership, and wish her many more birthdays!
