Whoopi: God Didn’t Make a Mistake Giving Me Smarts to Pick Abortion

Bringing the hassle back to ABC’s The View on Wednesday, former conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck returned to celebrate the 25th season and confronted the cast with the pro-life alternatives to abortion. And her compassion for life was greatly needed on the show as co-host Whoopi Goldberg ghoulishly proclaimed that since “God doesn’t make mistakes” he made her “smart enough to know when” abortion was the right call.

While the rest of the cast were trying to scare the audience about states adopting pro-life laws, including co-host Joy Behar falsely suggesting women could not be treated for life-threatening ectopic pregnancies, Hasselbeck brought the facts. “So, I think a lot of people try to link those two together,” she called out the falsehood.

Hasselbeck also pointed out how the thing “we’re failing to mention to women as women is that there are options out there that extend beyond abortion.” She then drew attention to the “thousands of agencies that wrap around women” to support them during the pregnancy and after the birth:

But I do think there are options out there. There are thousands of agencies that wrap around women that might not be able to care for the baby once born or may not want the baby when they’re pregnant or maybe it was unexpected and they’re in a hard situation, but that will come around at no cost and wrap around you.

And I might not change your minds, but I hope women out there know to look for the nonprofits, look for the agencies that help you create a birth plan and match you with an adoptive family who may have suffered miscarriage after miscarriage who want to care for the baby. So, that option is real and it’s out there. And I don’t believe they’re giving women half the information out there. And I think those lives have a precious value on them.

“I personally believe not because I believe life has value because I believe our creator assigns value to life and that those lives have plan and purpose over them as designed by God that are not limited to the circumstances of conception, nor the situations they’re born into,” she added.

Goldberg then used Hasselbeck’s beautiful comments about life and God to make her ghoulish proclamation. “God doesn’t make mistakes. God made us smart enough to know when it wasn’t going to work for us. That’s the beauty of giving us freedom of choice,” she declared.

“No. No,” Hasselbeck pushed back.

“Yes. Because I know my relationship, you know, my relationship [with God] is always choppy,” Goldberg quipped. “I also know that God made me smart enough to know that if there are alternatives out there that can work for me, I will investigate them,” she added.

So. According to Goldberg’s logic, Adam and Eve made the right decision to listen to the serpent in the garden because they had free will as gifted by God.

She went on to say that “God said, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I will not make that decision for anybody.”

Hasselbeck shot back with the fact that she would be choosing to end the life of the child against their will. “What about the life in the womb?” she asked. “I don’t believe there is any circumstance that we should the death penalty to an innocent life.”

As they were going to a commercial break, Goldberg tried to make the term “pro-life” meaningless with her own definition. But Hasselbeck was there to shut that down:

GOLDBERG: And again, before we go, let me just point out: no one — no one at this table is not pro-life. Nobody at this table is not pro-life. I just want to make sure we all know that. Nobody is happy about going to get an abortion.

HASSELBECK: That’s not pro-life.

Whoopi needs to realize that just because she played a character pretending to be a nun in the Sister Act series, it doesn’t make her a theologian.
