Pro-life Walker ahead of pro-abortion Warnock in latest poll in Georgia

This is clearly our day to talk about polling results. First, we discussed strong support for Texas’s abortion law and then the 60% approval garnered by a proposed 15-week federal abortion restriction introduced last week in Congress.

Now we switch to Georgia which has a pivotal U.S. Senate race and a rematch for governor.

“U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) is in a statistical dead heat with Republican challenger Herschel Walker,” Michael Graff reports. The Atlantic Journal-Constitution has Walker up by 46% to 44%. Why is that particularly important?

The poll in this pivotal swing state offers a modest counterpoint to reports of Democratic gains in recent months. The Warnock-Walker match, which could be key to Senate control, was one of the only reasons for Democrats’ optimism in the AJC poll. …

That close race is one of the only bright spots for Democrats in the poll, which was conducted by the University of Georgia’s School of Policy and International Affairs.

And then there’s the governor’s race. The AJC writes.

Gov. Brian Kemp led Stacey Abrams 50% to 42% in the AJC poll, one of the first polls that shows the Republican incumbent north of the majority-vote mark he needs to win a second term without a runoff.

If that weren’t bad enough, according to Graff

The survey (Sept. 5-16, margin of error of +/- 3.3 percentage points) showed double-digit leads for Republican nominees for lieutenant governor, attorney general and secretary of state.

And, oh by the way,

It also revealed a 37% approval rating for President Biden.
