Coming together to champion human rights from the post-Roe vantage point

They were the words that I had longed to hear for so many years: Roe is no more!

As I watched online coverage of the annual March for Life, I couldn’t help but think of that lovely day in June of 2022 when I heard that the tragic 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade finally had been overturned.

I am so energized and inspired by the post-Roe generation, who gathered in Washington this year to mark a new era in marching, a new era in advocating. Threats to innocent human life are emerging on both the federal and state level. But so many, many people stand ready to assist pregnant women, babies, people with disabilities, and the frail elderly.

We come together in solidarity and strength of numbers to show our allegiance to protecting the most vulnerable among us. It is a bittersweet gathering—bitter because of the trauma and tragedy of legal abortion, but sweet because of the countless compassionate souls who are willing to serve those who are tempted to abort their precious children.

There is no denying the backdrop of great challenges—the dramatic rise in dangerous chemical abortions…the need for healing after abortion…politicians who are hostile to the cause of life.

But we also have so many tools at our disposal in 2023—4D ultrasounds…thousands of pregnancy care centers…social media—that we can use to promote life– the dawn of a new era, one in which we will be championing human rights from the post-Roe vantage point.

The tremendous witness that the March for Life provides cannot be denied. Its peaceful, contemplative tone sends a powerful message: the pro-life movement is a pro-love movement. Marchers respect the lives of all persons, born and preborn, and are working to build a more just society.

I look forward to the day when all children are cherished, when abortion is unimaginable, when true justice prevails.
