Texas Gov. tells over 1,000 pro-lifers that “All of you are life savers”

A pro-life rally in Texas that drew well over 1,000 people on Saturday at the state capitol heard pro-life Gov. Greg Abbott thank “advocates who gathered in Austin to celebrate both last year’s U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and the near total abortion ban that exists now in Texas,” the rabidly pro-abortion Texas Tribune reported.

He told the audience that “All of you are life savers, and thousands of newborn babies are the result of your heroic efforts and promised to continue fighting for the lives of children—born and unborn.”

“All of us are united by the truth that our creator endowed us with the right to life,” Abbott continued. “With your help, we made transformational changes in Texas law last session—life-saving changes. We promised we would protect the life of every child with a heartbeat, and we did. I signed a law doing exactly that. We passed a law that bans mail-order abortion drugs in Texas. We promised that if Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortions would be banned in Texas. It was overturned, and I signed a law that bans abortions in Texas. All of you are life savers, and thousands of newborn babies are the result of your heroic efforts.”

During his tenure first as Texas Attorney General and then as governor, Abbott has advocated for and signed laws to further protect the innocent unborn. “In May 2021, Governor Abbott signed Senate Bill 8 to ensure the life of every unborn child with a heartbeat would be saved from the ravages of abortion and House Bill 1280 that banned abortions in Texas once Roe v. Wade was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court” [].

“Our work, as people who support life, is not even close to being done,” said Gov. Abbott. “We must now live up to the fullness of being pro-life. We must protect babies after they are born. We must protect the lives of the mothers who give birth.”

As we reported, in August, only three abortions took place in Texas in August 2022, all of which were “medically necessary,” according to statistics from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Texas Right to Life, NRLC’s state affiliate, confirmed that only three abortions had taken place, and added, “We still have work to do to stop illegal abortions, especially pills trafficked over the border [and] online, but this shows life-saving progress.”
