Bipartisan supermajority backs protections for ALL infants born alive

(Topeka, KS – April 4, 2023) –

Today the full Kansas legislature passed the Born Alive Infants Protection Act (HB 2313, SB 320), to require infants who survive abortion attempts be given the same degree of medical care as other children born alive at the same gestational age. Each chamber rallied strong support for the bill from both Republicans and a small group of Democrats who refused to bow to the abortion industry’s demands to ignore or turn away from these babies or the harsh entry into the world they face. The vote was

·        Senate, 31-9

·        House, 86-36

Over the last several weeks, survivors of failed abortion attempts testified in committee hearings along with doctors who have witnessed these babies fight for their lives. Other states and countries with reporting requirements for abortion attempts that result in infants being born alive agree: babies who survive abortion attempts are not a myth. They are real.

“A supermajority of Kansas legislators heard the testimonies of abortion attempt survivors and doctors and responded with compassion,” said Danielle Underwood, KFL Director of Communications. “The bill now heads to the governor’s desk where she can sign it into law, allow it to become law without her signature, or veto it. What will Gov. Laura Kelly do next?”

Underwood  concluded, “As Kansans, we must hold our elected leaders accountable to recognize these babies exist and deserve equal care. Kansans for Life calls on all who believe that no baby should be left to die alone on a cold, steel table to urge Gov. Laura Kelly to quickly sign the Kansas Born Alive Infants Protection Act into law.”
