Washington state senate passes bill to sell abortion pills

A couple of weeks ago Washington state’s consummate pro-abortion Governor held a press conference to announce he was taking no chances. In case the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine were to win its case against the FDA and force it to withdraw its approval of mifepristone, Gov. Inslee said he had purchased 30,000 doses of mifepristone through its pharmacy license. The mifepristone (the first of the two-drug chemical technique) arrived March 31 and cost $1.28 million.

On Friday the Washington state Senate accommodated the governor by passing Senate Bill 5768, sponsored by Sen. Karen Keiser, on a vote of 28-18. The bill “would authorize the state agency to practice pharmacy or wholesale distribution of those pills to both ordinary residents as well as DOC’s [Department of Corrections] prison inmates,” T.J. Martinell reported.

According to Just The News, the bill requires the department to sell the drugs at-cost plus a $5 fee, or about $50 per dose.

“The people of Washington have demonstrated time and again — in polls and at the ballot box — that we support the right to reproductive freedom,” Keiser said. “For 10,000 women every year in our state, that right comes down to having access to mifepristone. We cannot allow an unelected judge in Texas to ignore more than two decades of evidence and deny Washingtonians a safe, effective medication for their reproductive choice.”

Although outnumbered, Republicans raised objections. “Are we now saying that it’s okay for the governor, on behalf of the state, to purchase anything?” said Sen. Keith Wagoner, R-Sedro-Woolley.

Senate Bill 5768 is now working its way through the House.

Along with the deaths of millions of unborn babies, “the FDA has linked mifepristone to at least 28 women’s deaths and 4,000 serious complications,” Micaiah Bilger reported, “However, under President Barack Obama, the FDA stopped requiring that non-fatal complications from mifepristone be reported. So the numbers almost certainly are much higher.”

The two-drug chemical abortion technique is responsible for over half the abortions now performed in the United States.  According to Gov. Inslee’s office, roughly 800 unborn babies are aborted every month in Washington state using abortion pills– or about 60% of all abortions.
