North Carolina’s pro-abortion Gov. Roy Cooper has promised to veto a bill this coming Saturday that would protect unborn babies after the 12th week. Cooper has spent this week traveling around the state applying pressure to Republicans. His targets include Rep. Ted Davis, R-New Hanover, Rep. John Bradford, R-Mecklenburg, and Sen. Michael Lee, R-New Hanover.

Republicans have a veto-proof majority but by a razor-thin margin. All Republicans would have to vote to override Cooper’s veto. The Senate voted 29-20 for the Care for Women, Children, and Families Act while the House voted 71-46.

All Democrats, as per usual, have announced they oppose Senate Bill 20.

“And when all we need is one Republican to go to the leadership and say ‘we don’t need to do this’ … now, I think that that is something that I hope that the people of Mecklenburg and surrounding counties will talk to their legislators,” Cooper said, “I hope legislators will listen to this.”

SB 20 allows for limited exceptions for cases of rape and incest through 20 weeks; fetal abnormality through 24 weeks; and life of mother.
