Chiefs’ Kicker Supports Unborn Babies, Pro-Life Movement With Fashion Choice

The Kansas City Chiefs visited the White House on Monday as part of the reward for winning Super Bowl LVII back in February. I say “reward” loosely, because how fun can it really be to spend the day with “Sleepy Joe” Biden?

Anyway, during a photo-op at the ceremony, one photographer snapped a picture that should’ve only focused on Biden, with a few other players making up the background. But Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker appeared to photo-bomb the shot, and social media was quick to point out the significance of Butker’s fashion choice in the photo below.

Although the quality is somewhat hazy, the tie Butker is wearing has the Latin phrase “Vulnerari Praesidio” stitched into several places. The phrase translates to “For the protection of the vulnerable,” which is a clear nod to the pro-life movement of which he is an ardent supporter.

In addition, he was wearing a pin on the left side of his shirt that depicted a pair of feet from a baby in the womb, another fairly common fashion piece many in the pro-life movement wear. To say Butker’s actions were powerful, especially when he was spitting distance from the most pro-choice president in American history, while participating at one of the most covered sports-related events in the yearly news cycle, is the understatement of the week.

Butker is a Catholic and has repeatedly been outspoken on his faith on several occasions.

At Georgia Tech’s most recent graduation ceremony, he gave a riveting speech to the graduating students in which he implored them to find happiness through having faith and starting a family, the latter of which you can’t do without protecting and caring for unborn babies.

It’s easy to think that it’s up to big and important people to make such powerful statements. It would make sense to us if a prominent player on Kansas City’s roster, like Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce, would be the one to speak such powerful words. Yet Butker’s willingness to advocate for faith and life on multiple occasions proves once again that courage often comes from unlikely places.

And there’s a lesson in that for all of us.
