A vow never to forget 9/11

by | Sep 11, 2023

By Maria V. Gallagher, Legislative Director, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

I never want to forget, though it seems sometimes as if life would be so much simpler if it were not seared into my memory.

I never want to forget that moment when a co-worker urged me to turn on the television to find out what was going on.

I never want to forget the courageous first responders who ran to the places so many people were trying to escape.

I never want to forget the vision of Hell that came with planes commandeered by terrorists plowing through the Twin Towers.

I never want to forget the round-the-clock coverage that brought the nation together.

I never want to forget the wave of patriotism that passed over America in the days following the vicious assault on our republic.

I never want to forget the fierce devotion that caused people to return to churches to plead for help from the Almighty.

I never want to forget the tolling of the bells, signaling the lives lost in the rubble of the unspeakable horror of a terrorist attack.

I never want to forget the dread, the fear, the grief…followed by the consolation that came from the belief that a stronger America would rise from the ashes.

I never want to forget the posters of the missing that fueled our urgent prayers.

I never want to forget the families left behind in the wake of senseless slaughter.

I never want to forget 9/11, for forgetting would lead to a complacency that would erase the lessons learned from that fateful day.
