Ohio Right to Life Releases Statement on Ohio’s 2022 Abortion Report

by | Oct 6, 2023

COLUMBUS, Ohio—On Tuesday Ohio Right to Life released the following statement on the 2022 Ohio Abortion Report.

“In 2022, there were 18,488 innocent lives lost to abortion in the state of Ohio,” said Peter Range, Ohio Right to Life’s Chief Executive Officer. “While this represents a 15 percent decrease in abortions from 2021, we are saddened at this incredible loss of life in Ohio.”

Range said it is critical to understand that the decrease in abortions in 2022 is directly tied to when Ohio’s Heartbeat law, which protects babies with beating hearts, was in effect from June to September, proving pro-life laws do save lives.

Four-hundred and forty-two babies at 19 weeks’ gestation and over died from late term abortions in Ohio in 2022. If “Issue 1” passes on November 7, late term abortion will become enshrined in Ohio’s Constitution, allowing babies to be aborted up to the moment of birth.

“Ohio’s most innocent face a new threat with Issue 1 that would legalize abortion through all nine months of pregnancy,” Range said. “Not only that, Issue 1 would eliminate a parents right to know whether or not their underage child is considering an abortion. These changes to Ohio law would skyrocket the number of abortions of Ohio. We urge all people of good will to vote ‘no’ on Issue 1 this November to protect children from abortion and ensure parents still have rights when it comes to the lives of their children.”
