To the woman contemplating an abortion, there are so many people who want to love you and your unique, irreplaceable baby.

The sounds of the season take on particular significance, when considered against the backdrop of the culture of life.

I was reminded of this truism this week when I went to church. During the service, a line of young children paraded joyfully down the aisle, each one carrying a gift to be presented to families in need. Once they had delivered their presents to some of Santa’s helpers, they broke into song.

Their first hymn was “Silent Night,” sung with a sense of wonder. Then, they boosted the tempo with a hearty rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas!” Thunderous applause from parents, grandparents, and other adults followed.

For those brief moments, I was transported back to my own childhood, when I performed a weak-kneed solo at my school Christmas pageant. I recalled the great anticipation of the Baby Jesus’ arrival, along with a follow-up visit by St. Nicholas.

There is something especially stirring about viewing Christmas through a child’s eyes. The excitement is palpable, and it makes the season that much more memorable.

But I cannot help thinking about the children who were missing from that makeshift choir–the voices forever silenced by abortion. The world is missing their unique star power. To the woman who is pregnant and is wondering what to do–reach out to your local pregnancy resource center, church, or maternity home. There are so many people who want to love you and your baby. And the world needs the unique, irreplaceable child you hold within your womb.
