Members of VSHL’S Board of Directors and the Bishops of the Arlington and Richmond Dioceses met with Virginia’s pro-life Lt. Governor Winsome Sears on Pro-life Day. VSHL partnered with the Virginia Catholic Conference for the third time to organize this great event.

The General Assembly and Capitol Square were filled with the faces and voices of hundreds of concerned pro-life Virginians who are distressed over the radical pro-abortion agenda being forced through this year’s session by the slim but aggressive pro-abortion majority in both Chambers.

Virginia Pro-life Day organized by Virginia Society for Human Life (VSHL), the Virginia Catholic Conference, including both the dioceses of Richmond and Arlington, along with the Family Foundation, the national March for Life and other pro-life organizations, held the third event of its kind that combined advocating in the morning and a rally and march in the afternoon.

Hundreds of constituents filled the halls of the new General Assembly building in the morning to voice their frustration about the passage of pro-abortion bills designed to protect abortionists and put women and babies at risk.

Those present also shared their hope that legislators would not pursue passage next year of an extreme amendment to Virginia’s Constitution that will lead to unlimited abortions until birth throughout the Commonwealth and asked that, this year, legislators support the Governor’s budget that brings Virginia in line with the federal law on the funding of abortion with tax dollars.

Attendees came from all over Virginia and others who couldn’t attend sent texts and emails to their members of the General Assembly on the same day.

“Once again, Virginians showed up to share their views and ask our elected officials to stop protecting the abortion industry in the Commonwealth,” said Olivia Gans Turner, president of VSHL. “We want to see actions that will provide life-affirming answers for mothers in crisis and protection for the services that answer them. Unborn children deserve to be protected under our laws as well. We want Virginia to become a place that respects life from fertilization to natural death”.

Later in the Day over a thousand marchers walked peacefully from Capital Square through nearby streets with Attorney General Jason Miyares, after a rally that featured comments from Lt. Governor Winsome Sears, and Del. Nick Freitas among others.
