“I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump said
By Dave Andrusko
I am a child of the 60s and the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr, Robert Kennedy and many others are burned into my memory banks. It took decades before I could look up at a president or presidential candidates, especially close ups. Too many horrible memories.
My wife and I were traveling when news came in over the radio of the attempted assassination of pro-life former President Donald Trump. Over the next day and a half I was glued to Fox News.
I saw Presidential Trump suddenly realize he had been wounded and drop to the floor of the stage. I saw that clip over and over and over again. It is absolutely no exaggeration to say it was a miracle that Mr. Trump survived the attack.
Michael Goodwin of the New York Post wrote
“The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle,” said Trump, who was sporting a large, loose white bandage that covered his right ear. His staff insisted that no photos be taken.
“I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump said. “I’m supposed to be dead.”
“He said he would be if he had not turned his head slightly to the right to read a chart on illegal immigrants. At that instant, what would have been a kill shot tore off a small piece of his ear and splattered blood on his forehead and cheek.”
Fantasizing about killing Mr. Trump is now normalized. Victor Davis Hanson described it as “Assassination Porn.” In a post on X Hanson wrote
So since at least 2016 there has been a parlor game among Leftist celebrities and entertainers joking (one hopes), dreaming, imagining, and just talking about the various and graphic ways they would like to assassinate or seriously injure Trump:
By slugging his face (Robert De Niro), by decapitation (Kathy Griffin, Marilyn Manson), by stabbing (Shakespeare in the Park), by clubbing (Mickey Rourke), by shooting ( Snoop Dogg), by poisoning (Anthony Bourdain), by bounty killing (George Lopez), by carrion eating his corpse (Pearl Jam), by suffocating (Larry Whilmore), by blowing him up (Madonna, Moby), by throwing him over a cliff (Rosie O’Donnell), just by generic “killing” him (Johnny Depp, Big Sean), or by martyring him (Reid Hoffman: “Yeah, I wish I had made him an actual martyr.”).
For his part, President Trump posted the following on Truth Social
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening. We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win. I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.
Pro-abortion President Joe Biden, hypocrite that he is, called on Americans to “lower the temperature” of political rhetoric in an address from the Oval Office last night. His campaign, which is built about the astoundingly brutal (and inaccurate assertion) that Mr. Trump is an “existential threat to democracy,” reportedly pulled his attack ads over the weekend but would start up again today.
According to CNN’s Oliver Darcy, “MSNBC will not air ‘Morning Joe,’ its celebrated politics roundtable program, on Monday, opting to instead air continued breaking news coverage of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump”. Darcy obviously disagreed with the decision, but if you were to read through the inflammatory anti-Trump remarks routinely spit out by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski you’d know why MSNBC thought it would be prudent to pull “Morning Joe.”
And they would not be the only worry. Darcy writes
A person familiar with the matter told CNN that the decision was made to avoid a scenario in which one of the show’s stable of two dozen-plus guests might make an inappropriate comment on live television that could be used to assail the program and network as a whole.
Again, we’re talking about a mere one-day pause in commercials in which Trump is compared to everyone up to (or down to) Adolph Hitler and one day off from a couple of broadcasters who revel in attacking Mr. Trump with gusto and a disregard for civility.
The Republican National Convention begins today. The attempted assassination will surely be on everyone’s mind.
Please take a minute to read Melania Trump’s eloquent and respectful letter to the nation.
