Florida’s proposed Amendment 4 would enshrine in the state constitution abortion on demand up until birth

Whenever the bad guys wish to write abortion-until-birth into the state constitution, they know they can count on their friends in the media to insist the the allegations are bogus.. It’s as if they never heard of Doe v. BoltonRoe’s companion case. That less well known decision, also written by Justice Harry Blackman, fleshed out that when considering whether an abortion is necessary, the abortionist may consider “all factors – physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman’s age – relevant to the well-being of the patient.”

The Los Angeles Times’s David Savage wrote that “It soon became clear that if a patient’s ‘emotional well-being’ was reason enough to justify an abortion, then any abortion could be justified.”

Which brings us to Florida’s Amendment 4. WTSP is “fact checking” pro-life Governor Ron DeSantis’s assertion that Amendment 4 –The “Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion”–will allow abortions “until the moment of birth.”

Of course, the television station denies that up and down. “Amendment 4 would allow abortion until viability, as defined by existing state statute, and only after if necessary to protect the health of the mother,” writes Josh Sidorowicz.

But what is “health of the mother”? As we’ve seen, it’s “all factors – physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman’s age.” And who decides if abortion is “necessary to protect the health of the mother”? The abortionist!

The coalition opposing the amendment–www.donoharmfl.org–backs up Gov. DeSantis’s statement with these truths and an appreciation for what will really be legalized if the 60% of Florida voters vote in favor of it. And that includes that non-physicians will be allowed to perform abortions and that “all commonsense laws enacted by our duly elected state representatives” will be repealed.

So WTSP’s conclusion that Gov. DeSantis’s statement is “FALSE” is itself FALSE!
