Moms know their children better than pro-abortion bureaucrats do

Sometimes a shining nugget of truth emerges in an unlikely place.

This week a Pennsylvania House Democratic Policy Committee held a hearing on abortion. All of the testifiers were pro-abortion, including a doctor who performs abortions and a midwife who wants to perform abortions.

This is not an arena in which you would expect challenging questioning. But then, State Representative Regina Young (D-Delaware and Philadelphia Counties) posed an insightful question.

Rep. Young said she would be putting on her Mom hat to pose her query. Her question? If a child’s brain isn’t fully developed until age 25 or 26, how can a teenage girl be expected to make a decision on her own about abortion.

The question was brilliant. A lawyer who tries to obtain judicial bypass from parental consent laws for her teenage clients fielded the question but fumbled. She never did give scientific evidence to refute the idea that lack of brain maturation makes parental involvement laws so crucial.

Pro-abortion lawmakers want to do away with the parental consent requirement for abortion currently found in Pennsylvania law. Actually, they want to eliminate all protections for preborn children and their mothers where abortion is involved.

But they may run up against an obstacle—Moms, who know their children better than bureaucrats do.
