Did you by any chance catch the video of J.D. Vance talking to the media outside Air Force Two? It’s here, if you haven’t.
It was absolutely hilarious and (to my admittedly biased mind) proof positive that pro-life former President Donald Trump made a great selection when he chose pro-life Vance to be his running mate.
Vance and Harris happened to be at the same airport in Eau Claire, Wisconsin yesterday. He strolled over to the Vice President Harris plane—“I just wanted to check out my future plane,” he said tongue in cheek—talked to the ”gaggle” of reporters covering Harris, and then came back.
His point was simple. Harris hasn’t taken a single question from a reporter in 17—17!—days. “Vance gave them more to report than Kamala has in recent weeks, wrote David Strom. “Sure, they can write fawning stories about her rallies and how Tim Walz is a war hero/godlike Carhatt-wearing avuncular dad who comforts all Americans, but they never get to actually cover any news.”
Last time around, President Biden—then candidate Biden—essentially campaigned from his basement. The press so wanted Trump to lose that they did not rip Biden a new one.
Harris accomplishes the same thing—refusing to be scrutinized—and goes on to her scripted rallies.
Will it work? Dunno, but Vance was absolutely correct when he said
I have at least have enough respect for you all and for the American people you report to to come and talk to you and answer some questions.
