Know for sure, whatever skill you have, the pro-life movement could use it to advance a culture of life

By Maria V. Gallagher, Executive Director, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

I recently had the opportunity to take a personal strengths assessment. It came as little surprise to me that my number one strength was considered to be “achiever.”

I can remember when I was six years old, standing in my back yard, memorizing a color chart for school. I was determined to recall each color in the exact order it has been presented to me—red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, brown, black, white.

My desire to achieve is something I share with the pro-life movement. I want us to be successful in saving and changing lives. But it takes many hands to reach that goal.

In my pro-life book, Mercy’s Power, I recommend that each person joining the pro-life movement begins with a self-evaluation, noting one’s personal gifts and talents. Some are called to be writers of letters to the editor…others are gifted at counseling women through crises. Whatever skill you have, the pro-life movement could use it to advance a culture of life.

It is easy to discount one’s own abilities. At times, we may wonder if we as individuals can truly make a difference. But the fact of the matter is that all of us have something to give. The uniqueness of those gifts is what makes our movement come alive.

Never underestimate what hearts you can change and what miracles you can perform simply by using your skills to their greatest advantage. You may just be the answer to someone else’s prayer.
