It was an historic moment in a town that had been rocked by an attempt to assassinate a former President.

This past weekend, Donald Trump returned to Butler, Pennsylvania for an event that attracted tens of thousands of people. I watched on X (formerly known as Twitter) as the man who owns the social media platform, Elon Musk, stood with the current GOP Presidential candidate on stage.

Musk told the massive crowd that we are facing the most important election of our lifetime. He further indicated it was a must-win situation and urged rally-goers to text their friends to encourage them to register to vote.

Pennsylvania, known as the Keystone State, is believed to be the key to the White House this year. A win in Pennsylvania could provide the necessary swing state votes to conquer the Electoral College.

The event mixed politicking with praise for the fallen hero of Butler—firefighter Corey Comperatore—who lost his life at the previous July 13th rally. Trump also honored two other men who were seriously injured in the shooting.

At one point, the crowd broke into a chant of “God bless Trump!” The former President has credited Divine Intervention with sparing his life that fateful July day.

Saturday’s life-affirming event underscored the sacredness of life—and how easily it can be lost in today’s culture of death. The bullet which grazed Trump’s ear could have forever changed the course of history.

May we as a nation re-commit ourselves to peace in our politics—and teach peacemaking to our children and to generations to come.
