Pro-abortion Sen. Tina Smith
On Wednesday, Sen. Tina Smith spoke out against a federal bill to protect newborn babies who survive abortion. Then, newly elected Congresswoman Kelly Morrison used her first speech on the House floor to do the same thing!
The bill—the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act—passed in the House but was blocked in the Senate by pro-abortion Democrats (including Smith).
Here’s what the bill does: It says that any newborn baby who has survived an abortion must receive “the same degree” of care as any other baby born at the same gestational age. The bill does not limit abortion in any way. Nor does it require extraordinary measures that aren’t medically appropriate. It only ensures that babies born following an abortion are treated the same as other babies—that they are not neglected, abandoned, or killed.
Smith, Morrison, and other pro-abortion members of Congress are banking on Americans not reading the actual bill, which refutes every false thing they say about it.
Smith, a former Planned Parenthood executive, has spoken out and voted against such protection for years. And Morrison—when she was still in the Minnesota legislature in 2023—was the decisive Senate vote to repeal Minnesota’s state-level protection for born-alive infants.
Please contact Sen. Tina Smith and tell her to stop blocking protection for newborn babies.
And, in the coming weeks, watch for new MCCL-backed legislation here in Minnesota that will try to restore protection for babies after they are born.
Together, we’re going to protect life again in our state.
