2026 got off to an incredible start at my church.
We launched a Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and it was cuteness incorporated.
Dozens of little ones ages three to six took part in the special program. What struck me most were the older siblings who dutifully led their brothers and sisters to the gathering spot in front of the altar.
The siblings were very serious about their responsibility and carefully guided the young ones to hear the Bible in terms they could understand.
The experience brought back fond memories of the numerous times I had led my sister to a special destination—whether in church or elsewhere.
The bond between siblings can be vitally important in the growing up years. And yet, far too often in this world of ours, siblings are being aborted.
A large percentage of women who undergo abortions already have at least one child. This is so heartbreaking. Pressing financial concerns, relationship troubles, or overwhelming stress can lead a woman to the desperation of abortion.
It is critical that we let mothers know that there is help available to them when they are pregnant with their second or subsequent children. Staff at pregnancy care centers stand willing and able to offer them loving support and material aid in the midst of trying circumstances.
Churches can also be a helpful resource for struggling families. No mother should feel as if she needs to sacrifice her second child to take care of her first. No individual should be left with the profound grief of losing a sibling to abortion.
The “sibling safety net” is real and should be offered to every pregnant Mom who is encountering difficulties. Family preservation depends upon it.
